R & D Manager

Our client, a world class petro chemical company, has need for an R & D Manager to work out of their facility located in Mississauga, Ontario.

Lubricants, Research & Development

Reporting to the General Manager, Production and Logistics, the R & D Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall R & D needs of the lubricants business are met. The primary purpose of this job is to ensure that product research and design, product optimization, and technical/analytical support are provided to the Lubricants Strategic Business Unit. The Manager, R&D also functions as the focal point in managing relationships with additives suppliers.

•   Overall accountability for product design, optimization, and integrity
•   Overall accountability for R & D quality systems and procedures (ISO9001 / QS9000 etc.)
•   Implement and manage the overall R & D budget
•   Manage and provide technical support to operating departments and anticipate customer needs
•   Stewardship of additive supply alliance relationships for the SBU
•   Participate and encourage staff participation to maintain contact with major industries and technical societies
     to provide awareness and recognition of R & D product technologies and to shape and influence product
    specifications and industry standards
•   Stewardship of a safe work environment and implementation of management processes and programs for
     continuous improvement and employee empowerment
•   Coaching and developing R & D employees
•   Accountable for approximately 35 company staff with three major groups in department.

Capability Requirements/Specific Functional/Technical Skills
•   Minimum undergraduate degree in related field (Chemistry/Engineering)
•   15 years experience Lubricants industry
•   At least five years management experience
•   Strong Visionary/Strategic Thinking skills
•   Strong leadership skills
•   Decision-making skills
•   Integrity/Trustworthy

Key Dimensions
•   Allocation of overall R & D resources in order to meet strategic alliances and targets
•   Develop action plans to pro-actively respond to changes in strategic direction
•   Represent R & D on internal task forces and steering groups
•   May represent the company on external organizations and societies to conduct company business or
    represent company interests
•   May interact with customers, OEMs, industry etc. to obtain information and to identify opportunities
